EU package on negotiating table 'hopefully' in 10 days

TEHRAN, Jun. 24 (MNA) – The Iranian deputy foreign minister said that the European sides will hopefully introduce a package of economic measures against US sanctions in 10 days to keep the nuclear deal alive.

“There are intensive talks with Europeans to compile a package to keep the JCPOA alive and we hope that the package will be delivered to Iran within 10 days,” said the Iran’s Deputy Foreign Minister for Political Affairs Seyed Abbas Araghchi on Saturday evening.

Araghchi said that the process of talks with the European sides in neither 'promising' nor 'despairing', adding that there are just some proposals that could help preserving the nuclear deal in the wake of the US pullout.

"We may or may not reach an agreement," he said.

The Iranian nuclear negotiator also said that in the talks, they have clearly said to the Europeans that Iran has not decided whether to remain in the JCPOA or not and its decision depends on the other side’s behavior towards Iran’s demands.

Meanwhile, Araghchi said that Iran has received positive signals from European as well as Russian and Chines leaders on saving the JCPOA.

The Iranian deputy foreign minister further said that it is not yet clear whether or not the Europeans could resist the US pressures against their economic activities.

In the meantime, Araghchi warned that the sanctions and the JCPOA do not go together, stressing the need for Europeans to deliver their package to Iran by the end of the month.
